Global Banlist

The shared list of cheaters caught across every Asphyxia server, and how to control it on yours.

The global banlist is a shared record of accounts caught cheating anywhere on the Asphyxia network. With it on, a cheater banned on another server this morning can’t join you this afternoon.

The mechanics are on Global banlist; this page is where you control it.

Turning it on and off

One switch, per server. On by default.

With it off, your server downloads nothing and enforces nothing from the list. Your own bans are entirely unaffected either way.

What’s on it

Only reviewed bans. Bans issued on individual servers are examined by Asphyxia moderators, and only ones that clearly show cheating are promoted. A ban you issue stays local unless it’s been through that review.

The table shows each entry with the player’s name, the reason, and when it was added. Search to check whether a specific player is on it.

Excluding a ban

Sometimes you want the list, but not one entry — a player you know personally, or a ban you disagree with.

Exclude individual bans for your server here. Excluded bans are filtered out before the list is ever sent to your server, so that player connects normally while everyone else on the network still keeps them out.

Exclusions are per-server and take effect within a few minutes, without a restart.

Checking before someone joins

To find out whether a specific person is listed before they’ve ever connected, use Discord Lookup — it reports global ban status alongside their Discord profile and any local record.

Should you use it?

Most servers should. The trade-off is straightforward: you gain protection from cheaters other servers caught first, and you give up the ability to independently judge those bans — they’re moderated by Asphyxia rather than by you, with per-ban exclusions as your escape hatch.

If your community is small and closed, or you’d rather make every call yourself, turning it off is a reasonable choice. Your own detections and bans work exactly the same either way.
